Salad In a Jar

Meal prep is key if you want to lose some extra pounds. If I am starving and I don’t have pre-made healthy meals, I dive right into the chips and whatever other junk food I can find. I try so hard not to but can’t help it. I love food!

Meal prep can take hours! Or it can be simple. Here are a few things that I like to do, to keep my fam healthy.

See…nothing fancy here. We got some fruit and yogurt in the morning to go with our shakes. For lunch some hard-boiled eggs,  salad in a jar, spiralized veggies with some chicken or fish, sliced peppers and hummus.  All this is so quick and simple. Of course some fried chicken or a piece of pizza sound way better, but those also make any hopes of your abs surfacing to disappear.

A salad in a jar is my favorite. For some reason the salads seem to stay way fresher in a glass jar. I’m sure if I googled it I could give you a scientific explanation why, but I don’t have time lol.

I mix whatever I find in my fridge and pantry. I always surprise myself and make a new favorite salad by accident. Each jar is slightly different so my taste buds don’t get bored 😛

Here are a few ingredients I like to use:

*Arugula

*Spinach

*Broccoli

*Banana Peppers

*Tomatoes

*Bell Peppers

*Garbanzo beans

*Black Beans

*Persian Cucumbers

*Hard Boiled Eggs

*Couscous

*Feta Cheese

*Red Onions

*Olives

*Goat Cheese

*Bacon

*Turkey

*Fish

*Chicken

*Shrimp

*Corn

*Pickles

*Shredded Carrots

*Pistachios

*Apples

*Strawberries

*Mango

*Almonds

*Walnuts

*Cashews

*Cranberries

Pick a few ingredients from that list above and see what you come up with. Switching just one ingredient can change the taste of the whole salad. Find out your fav.

Make sure you put any dressing, salsa, tomatoes, on the bottom. Put any ingredients that can make your salad soggy in the jar first. This will keep your salad fresh. Nobody likes a soggy salad.

Here are a few of my fav dressings to use.

This fat free balsamic vinaigrette  from Trader Joe’s. I like to put this on everything! Just a little goes a long way. Remember to put this in the jar first so that it is on the bottom. Stack all your salad ingredients on top. Flip the salad jar into a bowl and you will have a delicious, fresh salad with dressing .

These are from Trader Joe’s as well. They are salsa and work AMAZING as a dressing! I can’t explain how delish these are, so that just means you gotta go buy them.

Comment below and let me know your fav salad you created 🙂

TOTALLY swiping this idea! I love salads but I tend to get lazy about making them (unless its plain — just lettuce + dressing, blah). Seriously great idea!
